Program Content Questions

1. Will there be guest speakers?

It is likely there will be guest speakers at both 2014 NorthLegal Bankrkuptcy Conferences. Although no particular guest speakers have been arranged yet, prior guest speakers have included bankruptcy judges, Chapter 13 Trustees, and an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Watch here for additional information as it develops.

2. What materials are provided? Do you have additional materials that I can buy for an extra fee?

Absolutely all written materials are provided as part of the program price; there is nothing extra you must (or even can) buy. Program materials include detailed information concerning the types of bankruptcy, what the automatic stay is and how to obtain relief from it, what you should look for when analyzing chapter 7 and chapter 13 bankruptcies and the circumstances that allow you to fight each, and much more. Also included are sample letters and detailed worksheets to use when dealing with bankruptcy cases when you return to your credit union.

3. May I just buy the written materials without attending the Conference?

We're sorry, but no. Although the program materials are comprehensive, they are not intended to be used independently from the Conference.

4. I've attended the one-day programs Eric North has conducted for my credit union league in the past. Will this program really be much different?

The basic content of the NorthLegal Bankruptcy Conference is similar to, but much more detailed than, that presented in the single-day programs. Those who have attended both single-day and multi-day conferences by Eric and who have offered comments, have universally commented that they gained greater understanding by having the additional time for training. Of course, the ability to interact with other participants from around the country added to the experience for those who have been able to attend.

Hotel Room Questions

1. Must I bring the credit card that I use to reserve my hotel room with me to the Conference?

Not if you plan ahead and if your hotel reservations were made at least 30 days prior to your arrival. Many participants use a card issued in the name of their employer to make their hotel room reservations. If your name is shown on the card, just bring the card with you to the program. If your name is NOT listed on the credit card, you will need to (1) complete a Credit Card Authorization Form, (2) fax it in advance to the hotel, and (3) bring the original form with you.  (You do not need to bring a photo copy of the credit card or driver’s license of the person whose name is shown on the card.) Watch here or contact NorthLegal for a form and contact information as the conference date gets closer.

2. I work at a federal credit union. How can I avoid paying transient lodging tax on my hotel room?

If you pay for your room with a credit card issued in the name of the federal credit union, you should not need to do anything else before you arrive. Upon arrival, make sure the desk clerk remembers to code your room in a way to avoid the tax.

If you pay for your room with a credit card issued in your individual name, you will need to complete a Transient Lodging Tax Exemption Form for Federal Credit Unions that you can obtain by clicking here. When it is complete, fax the form to the hotel. Watch here or contact NorthLegal for contact information when the conference date gets closer

Bankruptcy Post-Program Workshop Questions

1. May I attend the Post-Program Workshop on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning without attending the main program earlier that week?

We're sorry, but no. The workshop is meant to build on information presented during the primary program, and training will proceed under the assumption the participants are familiar with information presented during the primary program. If those who did not attend from Monday through Thursday were to join us for the workshop, training would be delayed as materials presented earlier in the week would be presented again.

2. I really can't afford the time to attend the Post-Program Workshop. Is it still worthwhile for me to attend the main program from Monday through Thursday?

Absolutely! During the main program, the subject of bankruptcy will be covered as thoroughly as possible during that time. Even those who cannot attend the "extra day" will leave with a wealth of information about how bankruptcy works and solid direction concerning how to analyze and fight bankruptcy cases. The special workshop simply offers participants who can spare the additional day the opportunity to participate in hands-on analysis and handling of real-world cases, to further develop their skills and lock in their understanding.
